More milling and flattening...

Today I was back in the barn to mill up the rest of the walnut for the top and bottom of the dresser. I got everything laid out and glued up and went to the cottage to finish flattening the other two panels which will be the sides of the dresser. I had to take out some slight bowing in both panels so I got to use my jack planes and smoother to get them close enough to flat. This was a good opportunity to make a time-lapse video of my day. I used a program called Gawker that I downloaded for free and I thought it was a lot of fun to make. The song is Faster, Sooner, Now by David Gray. Enjoy!

That is a pretty cool video. Jealous of the barn for all the rough milling and then the hand plane work in the cottage. Really keeps the cottage clean.

Thanks JERM. The barn is great to have. However, the cottage ends up just as messy with all the planing . A lot less sawdust but a ton of shavings (not to mention dog hair, cat hair, toy trains...). I'm going to get rid of the carpet next year and put in laminate or some other cheap hard floor. OSB maybe. The important feature though -A/C in the summer and heat in the winter.

The 4 panels should be ready next week. Finally, the joinery is around the corner.

FUN video!! Loved it. :o) Watching you run back and forth around the planer was making me a little dizzy, though. haha

That's a beautiful photo--it'd be a nice one to enlarge and frame.
